Matt |
Matt is the volunteer who lived in Concepción
de Maria as a Peace Corps Volunteer with Andrew (Andres) for two years
before our arrival. Matt's claim to fame was helping to bring the
library to town, and being an all around nice guy. Matt is currently employed by the Riecken Foundation
which is the foundation that funded the library project. Matt is
responsible for the Honduras and Guatemala projects, present and future.
He is also a good friend and someone we stay with when we are in the capitol
as he has a house there. Matt has made living 6-8 hours from the
capital by bus a much more tolerable experience as we occasionally get a
ride from him in his Land Cruiser, which cuts the drive time down to 3 hours
in an air-conditioned vehicle. |

Douglas |
Douglas is a
15 year old boy who we have taken under our "wing" to try to mentor.
He is rather lost and is continually leaving town traveling to Choluteca,
Tegucigalpa, and even Nicaragua when he thinks in Concepción are not
exciting enough for him. His uncle brought him to us to try to
influence some of his behavior and to evaluate to tell him if there was
something mentally wrong with Douglas since he likes to leave without
telling anyone. Our goal is to get him back in to school and help him
meet his potential. |
