bullet"Street Lawyer" and "The Testament" By John Grisham

These book are great short reads. "The Street Lawyer" is a moving story about a lawyer who leaves a big law firm and does the right thing. "The Testament" is about a rich crazy guy who gives away 11 billion dollars, any more and the plot would be given away. Both were fun books and very easy to read.

bulletPelican Brief By John Grisham

Another great book by Grisham, so good they made a movie out of it. I was pretty happy to have never seen the move when I read this book. Very easy read very exciting book.

bullet“Poisonwood Bible” by Barbara Kingsolver

Almost every Peace Corps volunteer has read it and recommended it due to the parallel experiences of the author with living in a third world country. I am especially drawn in by the intricate view of Christianity as this missionary family goes to the Congo in Africa. The story is told through the eyes of the Pastor’s daughters and wife. Each chapter takes turns between the 4 girls and their mom. The father is an extreme Baptist minister who has a difficult time learning that a western mindset does not necessarily meld perfectly into the lives of the native people he is ministering to. Poignantly written, the author's eloquent verse draws you in.

bullet"Communication: The Key to Your Marriage" by H. Norman Wright

This is a great book about communication with in marriage.  It is based on sound principles and written by one of the best marriage improvement writers I've read.

bullet"The Red Tent" by Anita Diamont

This is an incredible book about the life of the biblical character Dinah.  It is a work of fiction, but brings to life the ways of life in the early days of gods chosen people, actually just Gods chosen family.  The book tells a heart wrenching tale of love, lust, greed, and a time when polygamy was a means of survival.  Pre-10 commandments time is filled with emotions that we most all can relate to easily in modern times.

bulletThe Marriage Collection - Keys to Make Your Marriage Better Edited/Compiled by Fritz Rienour

This is an excellent book which is actually a compilation of more than 10 different marriage and family authors.  The subject matter is diverse, and at more than 500 pages, it is fairly comprehensive.  Most of the chapters deal with communication, problem solving, and improving intimacy with in a marriage relationship.  We found the book helpful in all areas of our marriage.  As we read we both came to the realization that there were many things we could do differently to make our relationship better.  A must read for anyone who is serious about having healthy open lines of communication with in their marriage.
